John Allan preaches on "Deeper Than Words" on Seeking the Lost - International Radio.
Previously we've noticed that we shouldn't be ashamed of Jesus and his words. We've also acknowledged that God is unashamed of people who seek Heaven, and that we should be ashamed of sin and forsake it so we can obey God. In this lesson we want to deepen our appreciation for Mark 8:38 by realizing that there's more to not being ashamed of Jesus and his words than simply claiming we love Jesus and the Bible.
In Mark 8:34-38 Jesus said that those who would follow him needed to be willing to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow him. Taking up the cross meant they needed to be willing to lay down their lives to follow Jesus. We know this is in consideration because the next few verses talk about what will happen to one who desires to save his life as opposed to the one who loses his life for the sake of Jesus and the gospel. Moreover, he asserts that there's no profit to gaining the whole world but losing your soul. That brings us back to Mark 8:38 where Jesus stated that if they were ashamed of him and his words, he would be ashamed of them Being unashamed of Jesus and his words goes deeper than affirming that the gospel is true. It means we must also let Jesus and his words rule our decisions and life.
