Lesson Text:
"Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!" - Isaiah 5:20

We must learn to make the distinction between righteousness and unrighteousness. Many are as those that Isaiah wrote about that called evil good and good evil.

Let us do what God has commanded in His Holy Word and be not as them.

The Clear Line of Distinction between Right and Wrong
Modern society often argues and disputes that it is God’s right and God's right alone to decide what is sinful and what is not sinful

Sin has the power to blind us; 2 Corinthians 4:4, "In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them." Jeremiah stated, "Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord" (Jeremiah 6:15). How sad when people cannot distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil. How sad society is when we cannot blush any longer. The prodigal decided to repent and return home to his father, "when he came to himself" (Luke 15:17).

Sin will not allow us to think reasonable. Ungodly people are content with practicing ungodliness. They will praise ungodliness and then they will encourage others to engage in the same ungodliness. Godly people are intimidated and harassed many times for living righteously before God.

Paul wrote in Romans 1:32, "Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them."

Many Will Attempt to Replace God's Standard of Values for their Own Standard
Some want God dethroned in order that they might think that God's system of righteousness doesn't apply to them and is not important.

Some will claim that there is no God in order that they do not have to conform to God's Standard of right and wrong.

Many try to substitute their own value system in place of God's value system. Paul wrote in Romans 10:1-3, "Brethren, my heart's desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God."

Proverbs 14:12: "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."

Human wisdom is opposed with the divine wisdom of God. 1 Corinthians 1:18-21 - "For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God. For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe."

Many will try to Redefine or Relabel Sin
Society has redefined or relabeled evil by referring to it in a less dramatic way. A drunkard is no longer a drunkard but is just sociable; One who is stingy is just very thrifty, the word fornication is no longer accepted by society and has been replaced by consensual, or living together or a trial marriage; homosexuality is now just an alternate lifestyle; illicit drugs is referred to as recreational drugs; the murder of innocent babies or abortion is being pro-choice; alcoholism is relabeled now as a disease.

We must hate the things that God hates and love the things that God loves.

We must not steal but rather work; Ephesians 4:28, "Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth." 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12, "And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing"

Christians are to think pure things and add to our lives Christian virtues. Philippians 4:8, "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things." 2 Peter 1:5-8, "And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ."

Instead of calling evil good and good evil let us call evil, evil and good, good.

God in His infinite wisdom has already decided what is good or righteous and what is evil or unrighteous. We can not devise our own system as some attempted.

God has spoken to us through His Word about living a godly and righteous life. God has determined what is "right" and what is "wrong" and man does not have the right to change it. Man and society may very well call evil good but it is still evil and condemning in the sight of the Almighty God.

Have you obeyed the Gospel of Christ? The Bible states that we can obey the gospel and be added to the Lord's body by the Lord himself. Hear the gospel (Romans 10:17) ; Have faith (Mark 16:16); Repent of your sins (Luke 13:3,5); Confess the dear name of Christ (Romans 10:9-10) and be baptized to wash away your sins (Acts 2:38). We then meet the grace of Almighty God (Ephesians 2:8). Be faithful even until you die for the Lord (Revelation 2:10) so that Heaven can be your eternal reward.

Thank you my friend for studying the Bible with us today and may God bless you as you continue to read and study the Bible.
