If the Bible Says...

Bible Study MaterialsJake Taft discusses a very easy way to understand the plan of salvation.

The Bible is God's message to man, showing us, among other things, how we should live our lives and what we have to do to save our souls. It is incredibly easy to understand. So easy, in fact, that many people try to make it harder to understand than it really is. Let's look at some very basic questions that the Bible answers.

If the Bible says you will die in your sins, does that mean that you will be lost or saved?
If the Bible says you will all likewise perish, does that mean that you will be in heaven or hell?
If the Bible says that Jesus will deny you before his Father which is in heaven, does that mean you're going to heaven or hell?
If the Bible says your sins have been washed away, does that mean you are saved or you are lost?
If the Bible says that something will save you, will it do so?
If the Bible says that doing something will give you a crown of life, does that mean you will be saved or lost?

Now let's look at what the Bible actually says about those things.

  • John 8:24 says, "I said therefore unto you that ye shall die in your sins, if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins."
If you don't believe, will you die in our sins?

  • Luke 13:3,5 says, "I tell you, nay; but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
If you don't repent, will you perish?

  • Matthew 10:32-33 says, "Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."
If you don't confess Jesus before men, will he confess you before his Father in heaven?

  • Acts 22:16 says, "And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord."
Does baptism wash away your sins?

  • 1 Peter 3:21 says, "The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ"
    Does baptism save you?

  • Revelation 2:10 says, "Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."
If you are faithful unto death, will you receive a crown of life?

We know that it is impossible for God to lie (Hebrews 6:17) and that the Bible is God's Word (John 1:1, 2 Timothy 3:16-17 & Romans 1:16). Therefore, the Bible does not lie. What if someone says all you have to do is believe and you'll be saved; what does the Bible say about that? It says, You will perish. It says Jesus will not confess you before the Father in heaven. It says your sins will not be washed away. It says you will not be saved and you will not receive a crown of life. Why? Because you did not obey the other commands. Well , what if someone says that you must do everything here except baptism? The Bible says your sins are not washed away and that you are not saved. Why? Because you were not baptized.

The point is ALL of these things are required in order for a person to go to heaven. You can not disregard something the Bible says! Doing so will cause you to be lost! It is all or nothing!

Dear friend, don't be led astray. Many people say that all you have to do is believe. That is simply not true. Belief is only one thing that we must do. We cannot pick and choose the commands we want to obey from God's buffet table. It doesn't work like that! We must do all that God has commanded in order to attain the heavenly reward.
