In Joshua 24:15 Israel was challenged to choose whether they would serve God or not.

A closer look at Joshua 24 reveals several things that are important to bear in mind when deciding whether to choose the Lord or not. Today we will consider the value of remembering what God has done. Doing this lets us be mindful and grateful for God's blessings.

Joshua reminded Israel of what God had done for the Israelites. Specifically he said God:

  • Brought them out of Egyptian bondage. (Joshua 24:5)
  • Defeated their enemies. (Joshua 24:6-12)
  • Gave them the Promised Land. (Joshua 24:13)

In verses 16-18 it's evident that remembering what God had done helped Israel to choose to serve Him.

We do not live under the Old Covenant like Israel did. So, how does these ideas relate to us? When we consider the New Testament we recognize that God:

  • Sent His son as the sacrifice for sin (Matthew 20:28, 26:28; Romans 5:8)
  • Defeated sin and death. (Romans 6:8-11)
  • Gave us hope of Heaven. (John 3:16)

If we will remember these things it can motivate us to serve God. As 1 John 4:19 says "We love Him because He first loved us."

God has made salvation available through Jesus Christ. If we can help you obey the Gospel please let us know.

How to Obey the Gospel:

  1. Hear the Gospel (Romans 10:17)
  2. Believe (Mark 16:16)
  3. Repent of your sins. (Luke 13:3)
  4. Confess Jesus Christ (Matthew 16:16)
  5. Be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38)
