Maybe you've heard expressions like "Less talk, more action." There's time when talk is needed, but there is also talk that's to be avoided. Especially unproductive talk.

In 2 Timothy 2 we learn about action Timothy was to take and talk he was to avoid. We can learn valuable lessons from this.

Talk to Avoid:

  • Remind them of these things, charging them before the Lord not to strive about words to no profit, to the ruin of the hearers. (2 Timothy 2:14)
  • But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. (2 Timothy 2:16)
  • But avoid foolish and ignorance disputes, knowing that they generate strife. (2 Timothy 2:23)

Actions to Take:

  • Be diligent to show yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth.
  • Flee youthful lusts and pursue righteousness. (2 Timothy 2:22)
  • And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will. (2 Timothy 2:24-26)

How to Obey the Gospel

  • Hear the Gospel: the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ (Romans 10:17, 1 Corinthians 15:1-4)
  • Believe (Mark 16:16)
  • Repent of your sins (Acts 2:38)
  • Confess Jesus Christ (Matthew 16:16)
  • Be Baptized - immersed in water - for the remission of sins (Acts 22:16)
