John Allan preaches on "What are you Ashamed of?" on Seeking the Lost - International Radio.
What you're ashamed of says a lot about you. You can learn a lot about a man's values and priorities by knowing what he's ashamed of. In this lesson we're looking at the word rendered "ashamed" in familiar verses like Romans 1:16 and Mark 8:38. It appears twice in the gospels (Mark 8:38, Luke 9:26). Twice in Romans (1:16, 6:21) Three times in 2 Timothy (1:8, 1:12, 1:16). Twice in Hebrews (2:11, 11:16). Specifically in this lesson we want to notice that we choose what we're ashamed of.
In Mark 8:38 Jesus challenged that generation to choose whether they were ashamed of him and his words. Although we weren't alive at that time, when the Judgment Day comes it will certainly matter whether we are ashamed of Jesus or not.
Mark 8:38 shows that being ashamed of Jesus and his words has consequences. Jesus will be ashamed of those who are ashamed of him. On the other hand, Hebrews 11:16 shows that God is NOT ashamed of those who are seeking Heaven.
Are you ashamed of Jesus and his words? Or are you ready and willing to obey Him? We remind you that Jesus said "He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:16a)
