As members of the church of Christ (Romans 16:16), it is our desire to search the scriptures (John 5:39), and do the will of God (Matthew 7:21). Part of that will is to teach the gospel (Mark 16:15). We will give you Bible references in our lessons and encourage you to check them (Acts 17:10-11). If you should have any questions and/or comments please contact us so we may study together (2 Timothy 2:15).

And now a lesson titled: "You Are Lost, unless..."

Although debated by many in the religious world, the Bible clearly teaches what you must do to be saved. If you do not take the necessary steps that lead to salvation, the Bible teaches you are lost. Let's open our Bibles together and notice what it says I must do to be saved and not to be lost.

You are lost, unless you have obeyed the gospel. Jesus said we must do God's will (Matthew 7:21). It's not until obedience of the gospel that you are freed from your sins (Romans 6:17-18). Those who do not obey will be punished (2 Thessalonians 1:7-9). Romans 6:1-5 teaches us how to obey the gospel. It follows the pattern set forth by Jesus Himself (1 Corinthians 15:1-4).

You are lost, unless you are in Christ. If you were outside during a storm, you would quickly look for cover. You would look for a building or some other shelter to go into for safety. Outside of Christ means you are lost; in Christ you are saved. Salvation is found only IN Christ (2 Timothy 2:10; Acts 4:12). Redemption is found only IN Christ (Colossians 1:13-14). Eternal life is found IN Christ (1 John 5:11). You become a new person only IN Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). Galatians 3:27 teaches you are in Christ when you are baptized INTO Christ.

You are lost, unless you are in the Lordâ??s church. Christ died for His church (Acts 20:28). He gave His life for His church (Ephesians 5:25). Jesus adds the saved to His church (Acts 2:47). He is the Savior of His church (Ephesians 5:23). Acts 2:37-41 teaches what some of the first Christians had to do to be members in the Lord's church. We today must do the same.

You are lost, unless you are a faithful Christian. There are those who undoubtedly believe once they become a Christian there is nothing else to do, that they will always be saved without the possibility of falling away. However, the Bible teaches differently. Christians must not be neglectful (Hebrews 2:1-4; 10:24-27). Rather than having a corrupt mind, Christians must be spiritually minded (Romans 8:5-9; Galatians 5:19-21; Titus 2:12). Christians must remain faithful to God even until death (Revelation 2:10).

Will you now examine your life with the Bible. If you are lost, why not make a change today?

What does the Bible say about salvation?

  • All have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
  • The wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23).
  • But the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord (Romans 6:23).
  • Not everyone will go to Heaven (Matthew 7:13-14; 2 Thessalonians 1:7-9).
  • Only those who obey God will go to Heaven (Matthew 7:21).
  • Obedience means believing that Jesus is the Son of God (John 8:24; Hebrews 11:6).
  • Repenting of sins (a change of life) (Luke 13:3; Acts 17:30).
  • Confessing your faith in Jesus (Romans 10:9-10).
  • Being baptized for the remission (forgiveness) of sins (Mark 16:16; Acts 2:38; 22:16; 1 Peter 3:20-21).
  • Live as a faithful Christian until death (Titus 2:12; Revelation 2:10).

What does the Bible say about how we are to worship God?

  • We are to worship in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24).
  • Worship is to be on the first day of the week (Acts 20:7).
  • The male members are to lead the worship service (1 Corinthians 14:34).
  • God's word is to be preached (Acts 20:7).
  • Prayer is to be offered to Him (Acts 2:42).
  • Christians are to give cheerfully according to how God has prospered them (1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 9:6-7).
  • The Lord's Supper is to be taken (1 Corinthians 11:23-29; Acts 20:7).
  • Members are to sing one to another from the heart (Ephesians 5:19; Colossians 3:16).
  • We are not to change by adding to or taking from (Revelation 22:18-19).
